The idea to create a junior chair came about from a couple of realisations.
The first is that for a piece of furniture that feels rather temporary it can, in reality, be a fixture of your house for a rather long time. Junior chairs start to be useful around the age of 3 up to at least 8 years old. That’s 5 years minimum. Now if you have a couple of children it will get passed on to the next one, which means you might have a junior chair at your dining table for 8 to 10 years!
The second realisation is that didn’t seem to be much choice on the market. There are numerous high chairs for those early years but not so much the next stage in life. We had one that was a nice sitting height for our children and used constantly as a result, but was just some pine held together with screws. So it led to the idea to create one of my own.
The ‘junior’ is for both children and parents. Children get a comfortable height to sit at the dining table. Parents get a handmade piece of furniture that can compliment your existing dining chairs for the next decade.
I can offer the ‘junior’ in a range of hardwoods – walnut, oak, cherry or ash. That covers a range of colour tones for your dining space. In addition the seat can be supplied in a different wood to the frame. This creates some further possibilities to style it to suit, e.g. a walnut frame with a lighter toned ash seat.
